Dolphins Let Raiders Slip Away, Lose 26-20

By Jay Tando

September 6, 2014

San Bernadino, CA – The visiting California Dolphins traveled to the California Raiders and let a close game slip away in a loss, 26-20.

The Dolphins would score the first two touchdowns of the game in the 2nd Quarter and take a 12-0 lead following TD passes of 30 yards to WR Johnathan Davis and 26 yards to WR Chris Duvall from QB Lance Dibene.

The Raiders would answer with 2 TD's of their own to take 14-12 lead at the half. One score came on a 15-yard pass play and the other a 2-yard QB run just before halftime.

The 3rd Quarter would be a tight back-and-forth battle as Dolphins QB Lance Dibene would score from one yard out and find WR Tristian Scott for the 2-point conversion pass to make it 20-14, Dolphins.

But a 10-yard QB run by the Raiders would tie the score at 20 with 5:13 to play in the 3rd Quarter.

With 13:21 to play in the 4th and the game tied at 20, the Dolphins inserted back-up QB Lamonta Green following an Interception by starter Lance Dibene. Green would lead them down to the Raider 3-yard line but a fumbled shotgun snap on 3rd down recovered by Green led to a blocked FG attempt on 4th down and the game remained tied at 20.

With 1:34 to play in the game the Dolphins had a chance to try to break the tie following a Raider interception - but Dolphins backup QB Green would have the ball jarred loose on a scramble and lose the fumble, setting up the Raiders at the Dolphins 33-yard line.

The Raiders would score on a 10-yard QB run with 18.8 seconds to play in the game to take 26-20 lead.

But it wasn't over yet. With 1.8 seconds to play the Dolphins were at the Raiders 32-yard line with one last shot to tie it - or win it. QB Green's pass into the deep left corner of the Endzone was caught by WR Johnathan Davis - but just barely out of bounds.
